UAE - Valley of Fog in the Liwa Oasis in Empty Quarter Desert - Rub Al Khali

Abu Dhabi Emirate is covered for the most of its part by the well known Empty Quarter desert, which is also known by its local name which is the Rub Al Khali desert. The Empty Quarter desert offers some of the most beautiful scenery in the region. Amazing sand dunes can be found in this region of the United Arab Emirates. It is not uncommon to find beautiful sand dunes that reach up to 250 meters or more. The Rub Al Khali desert occupies around 25% of the Arabian Peninsula and has been named the largest of all sand deserts to be found anywhere in the world. Rub Al Khali can best be described a stark and arid desert. An oasis can be found inside this dry desert on occasion and local herdsmen do use these extensively.

To get to this place I drove the most amazing desert road ever and got to the most amazing desert resort Anantara Qasr Al Sarab in the middle of sea of sand dunes and nothing else but desert. I first enjoyed some arabic coffee there before heading to shoot desert under late afternoon light. I wanted to come here for long time and after seeing it I wonder why did it take me so long. But I guess better late than never.

I thought I have seen it all, at least when it comes to desert, but I guess there is never and ultimate end to what we can learn or experience. When I woke up for the sunrise shots I only found myself in thick fog stretching over the endless desert. View I would never expect to see in such a place. When I got to the high point overlooking the sea of dunes I could see how the fog was flowing through the desert/dunes valley. A sight I will never forget.

Gulf Stream Recalls

2 recalls found.
  1. DEFECT #1 - SUSPENSION

    Description
Gulf stream is recalling 50 my 2008-2009 crescendo, yellowstone, and tourmaster recreational vehicles equipped with saf-holland adl series rear suspensions.  In some instances the transverse beam was not properly welded which could result in a failure of the weld.

    Consequence
If the weld fails, vehicle stability while cornering could be affected resulting in loss of vehicle control, possibly resulting in a crash.  In addition, the transverse beam could drop to the ground causing sparks that could cause a fire hazard.

    Corrective Action
Gulf stream is working with daimler trucks and saf-holland to have a visual inspection of the adl transverse beam performed.  If a weld defect is identified, saf-holland will provide a service replacement kit that contains a new transverse beam, all necessary installation hardware, beam replacement, and instructions free of charge (please see 08e031).  Owners may contact saf-holland at 1-231-773-3271, daimler trucks at 1-800-547-0712, or gulf stream at 1-574-773-7761.

  2. DEFECT #2 - STEERING: LINKAGES: TIE ROD ASSEMBLY

    Description
Gulf stream is recalling 68 my 2007-2008 crescendo, tour master and yellowstone motor homes built on freightliner chassis.  The aac front axle steering arm bolts with a latch lever pivot bolt assembly may have been over-tightened which may result in fatigue or fracture of the steering arm bolts.

    Consequence
Should these bolts fracture, the resulting loss of steering control could cause a crash.

    Corrective Action
Gulf stream is working with daimler trucks (freightliner) to repair these vehicles free of charge (please see 07v306).  Owners may contact freightliner at 1-800-547-0712 or gulf stream at 1-574-773-7761.
